A very attractive and well-known religious site in Tamil Nadu is “Nellaiappar temple”. This is a very famous Hindu temple located in Tirunelveli, a city in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This Hindu temple is completely dedicated to Lord Shiva Ji. Devotees who visit this temple worshipped Lord Shiva Ji in the form of Nellaiappar also called Venuvananathar represented by the lingam. Moreover, many devotees also visit this temple to worship “Vishnu” Ji. The most well-known shrines in the temple are those of Swamy Nellaiappar and his spouse Sri Kanthimathi Ambal. The total land area of this temple is around 14 acres.
The Tevaram, a 7th-century Tamil Saiva canonical poem composed by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and categorized as Paadal Petra Sthalam, honors the presiding deity. All of the shrines within the fourteen-and-a-half-acre temple complex are surrounded by concentric rectangular walls.
