Ananthapura Lake Temple is situated in the middle of a lake in the village of Ananthapura, Kerala. It is around 6 km from the town of Kumbla in Manjeshwaram Taluk of Kasaragod District of Kerala. The main deity of the temple is Lord Vishnu and the temple is also known with the name called Ananthapadmanabhaswamy Temple. Moreover, this is a very unique temple because it is the only temple in Kerala which is built in the middle of a lake. Also, “Babiya” named a vegetarian crocodile used to live in that lake for decades. And she ate only temple offerings by devotees and never harmed a single human.
Therefore, it is believed that the crocodile was a reincarnation of god and a protector of the temple. But unfortunately, she died at the age of 75 years on October 9, 2022. Apart from that, the temple has a very unique structural aspect for it is erected in the middle of an impressive lake of 302 feet. The temple looks very beautiful because of its architectural structure and its surroundings.
